You have your own business, product or service and you want to tell the world about it using video persuasion marketing. Having a good authentic spokesperson is a powerful, proven way to get viewers to pay attention to what is being said and having those viewers respond to your message. You might be thinking, “Who can be that authentic spokesperson?” Many people and businesses when they are first starting up don’t have the extra money to pay a celebrity or influencer to be the spokesperson. You should consider being your own spokesperson.
I first “discovered” this concept almost 30 years ago, in the very first marketing campaign that I did, that became successful on a national level. I was investing in real estate at the time and went to a seminar teaching how to buy a “distressed” property. There were eight (8) people in that first seminar I attended. The person teaching the seminar was a Vietnamese immigrant named, Tom Vu, who didn’t speak very good English. I did what I was taught and was able to “flip” a house in two weeks and made $12,000 — a LOT of money for me at the time. I was so grateful, that I called a local business magazine and was able to get him an article and then later created my very first infomercial, “Secrets of Success,” using Tom as the spokesperson. Over the next 3 years we went from seeing eight people a week to thousands using him as the spokesperson. After that, the founder/spokesperson successes continued. I used Dr. Jeffery Bland to promote his own weight loss product, The Perfect Diet, which produced $20 million in sales. Later Jay Kordich, a.k.a. the Juiceman, helped create the whole fresh juice movement, which produced $75 million in sales. Jim Sorensen followed with Momentus Golf at $30 million in sales for a swing training device. My next big break came with Nick Woodman’s GoPro cameras at $1 Biilion in sales. Right now there is a highly visible and successful campaign running on TV called My Pillow, and the spokesperson is the founder, Mike Lindell. There are many more examples I can point to, but just know – this concept really works!
If being your own spokesperson is so effective then what’s stopping most people? I truly believe it starts with confidence and a belief in yourself. Believing in yourself is the first step to success.
There is a saying that “success come from within.” Here are three steps you can take to develop that confidence to be in front of the camera and start being your own spokesperson.
1 – Visualize yourself as you want to be
There is a great quote from Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich:
“What the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.” — Napoleon Hill
Confidence comes naturally to those who are successful, but success comes only to those who are confident. Start acting and picturing yourself as a highly successful person. This will come across on camera and people will respond positively to you.
2 – Affirm yourself, use “I Am” statements about self
“I am the best spokesperson ever,” “I am successful,” “I am good on camera,” ect. Here is another great quote from famous self help author, Louise Hay:
“You have been criticizing yourself for years, and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” — Louise L. Hay
3 – Do one thing every week that scares you
Try making your next video with “You” as the spokesperson or how about doing your first Facebook Live video?
One last quote from T. Harv Eker, author of “The Millionaire Mindset:”
“If you are insecure, guess what? The rest of the world is too. Do not overestimate the competition and underestimate yourself. You are better than you think.” — T. Harv Eker
I’d like to leave you with one last example of the effectiveness of being your own spokesperson as it works in today’s market place. Two years ago I gave the keynote speech at The Prosper Show for Amazon sellers. I met a fellow Seattelite there named Bernie Thompson and we now get together frequently for breakfast. Bernie is a computer engineer who owns a very successful business called Pluggable, which sells computer products like docking stations on Amazon and other online market platforms. Bernie has built his business by creating video content to explain and showcase his products on his own website and on YouTube. Bernie is his own very effective spokesperson. If you are looking for a good place to get started with your own products or business then check out this video of Bernie talking about his company’s mission:
Start getting in front of the camera — not just behind it, and watch your views and sales start to skyrocket!
